Tai Chi has been researched & proven to increase strength & balance & improve coordination & reaction which are key risk factors for falls in older persons. Note: Please check with your GP/Physio before participating in Tai Chi classes.

What to expect

Tai Chi itself is a beautiful art form that can have significant benefits for your health from both a physical and mental aspect. Tai Chi can help with the development of balance, coordination, flexibility, stability, and awareness. The slow gentle movements help to loosen up the body and relax the mind.

Class runs for one hour.

NZ Tai Chi has been teaching and furthering the principles and practical application of Tai Chi in New Zealand since the late 80's.  Learning Tai Chi from a young age in Malaysia, lead instructor Eddie Tan immigrated to New Zealand in the 80's and has continued to practice and teach across Auckland & Waikato regions since then, taking thousands of students over the years on journeys of health, wellness, and mindfulness.

Who can join

Open to anyone aged 65 years or older (55 years or older for Māori and Pasifika), or anyone at an increased risk of falling, if they can safely participate in the class.  

What to bring and wear  

Casual comfortable clothes e.g. track pants, shorts, tights or trousers with t-shirts or sweatshirts. Lace up or snug fitting shoes or sneakers that are comfortable to move in.
